Mr. Dashdavaa, Director General of the IAAC, met with the newly appointed Chairman and members of the Public Council on September 9, 2021, at the Public Center.

By the decree of the President of Mongolia, 15 members have been appointed to the non-staff Public Council under the Anti-Corruption Agency.

They exchanged views on opportunities and ways to build public participation and oversight in the fight against corruption.

Mr. Dashdavaa gave a brief overview of the organization's structure, activities, and some of the major measures taken against corruption.

“In 2020, Corruption Perceptions Index for Mongolia was 35 score, which ranked country in 111th place. Therefore, the Government has established a working group consisting of representatives of government agencies responsible for improving the Corruption Perceptions Index and supporting anti-corruption activities. You will be a real force to work together to eradicate the root causes of corruption, to represent the people and the public, to make your voice heard in society, and to work together to effectively carry out educational and research activities.” he said.

Mr. Ganbat, Chairman of the Public Council, said, “The fight against corruption is not just the responsibility of the IAAC. Fighting corruption involves the participation of the whole nation. As responsible for representing the public, educating and participating in the fight against corruption, the Public Council must uphold the rule of law, work in a moral, responsible, and proactive manner, and support, cooperate and understand the IAAC by mobilizing its efforts to rid society of corruption.”

The IAAC has a non-staff Public Council, which is mandated by Article 27 of the Anti-Corruption Law to actively engage the public in the fight against corruption, provide feedback, and advice on the corruption situation and implementation of anti-corruption legislation. The council has 15 members and is appointed by the President of Mongolia for a four-year term. The term of office of the members of the Public Council appointed in 2017 has expired and the members of the Council have been reappointed.
