REVIEW REPORT ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CHAPTERS II AND V OF THE UNCAC

iaac

The United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) enables Mongolia to implement anti-corruption and corruption prevention measures in line with international standards and to cooperate with other countries in recovering proceeds of crime located abroad.

Mongolia has consistently supported global efforts and initiatives to combat corruption. One notable example of this commitment is the UNCAC.

Mongolia signed the Convention on 29 April 2005 and ratified it on 27 October 2005.

States Parties to the Convention undertake obligations in the following areas:

  • Prevention;
  • Criminalization of corruption and law enforcement;
  • International cooperation;
  • Asset recovery; and
  • Technical assistance and information exchange.

Review Process

Under the mechanism for the review of implementation adopted by the United Nations in 2009, States Parties are assessed on their implementation of the obligations set out in the Convention. Two chapters of the Convention are selected for review, and each country undergoes a review every five years. Under this process, two States Parties selected at random review the implementation of the Convention by a third State Party.

The review is based on a self-assessment methodology. However, information required for the review may be further clarified and examined through direct communication with the State under review. The review process is completed once the draft country review report has been finalized and agreed upon by the two reviewing States Parties. Information on countries that have undergone the review process, together with summaries of their review reports, is available HERE.

The Implementation Review Group was established to oversee the review process and identify ways to improve it. It also provides a platform for presenting review reports and exchanging experiences among States Parties.
